Going Underground in London

How do you get 530m3 down to the bottom of a 40m deep shaft ? This was the problem facing Hochtief / J. Murphy & Sons Limited JV on the London Power Tunnels Project (LPT2) until they called in Camfaud concrete pumps. After a technical site visit, it was decided the 5 section 65m Schwing-Stetter was the right pump for the job, and with a 63m Putzmeister standby, all bases were covered. Environmental wash out controls were also essential to the successful delivery of this pour. Camfaud arranged for Eco-Pan ltd to supply concrete pump washout pans and mixer washout pans to help capture and recycle all waste concrete and mixer washout from the pour. With this level of detailed planning, it is no surprise the pour went without a hitch.
